Union Basel
In the centre of the
lower Kleinbasel one can find the cultural
meeting centre "Union". The former church community house St. Matthäus, which has been renovated
by the Christoph Merian Foundation, houses various organisations and a restaurant. The Union rents out
function rooms for events of all sorts.
On
the Klybeckstrasse,
easily accessible by public transport, the former church community building shines in new splendour:
the red façade and the arched windows invite one to visit the centre. There is the restaurant Union
on the ground floor which offers culinary highlights to the guests.
All
guests are welcome to hang out, read newspapers from all over the world and converse with other patrons
without being obliged to order anything. The association "Meeting Centre Kleinbasel" runs
the multi-cultural meeting place "Union". It organises readings, meals, panel discussions
as well as attractive children's programs. Furthermore the association rents out rooms for individual
events and professional groups that need a place to perform concerts and theatre or dance evenings.
The
red hall, which has a size of 400 m2 and a festive atmosphere, offers the right setting for banquets,
productions and private birthday parties for approx. 300 persons. The hall is equipped with a stage,
which can be used - separated by a folding panel - as an enclosed conference room or classroom for about
25 persons. A screen, a lectern, integrated loudspeakers, a flipchart as well as an overhead projector
are at disposal. For a professional theatre or concert evening the necessary infrastructure would have
to be rented additionally. The guests can be catered to by the Restaurant Union upon request. The upper
hall has a size of 140 m2 and is more suitable for smaller events such as readings, discussions or club
and association assemblies as well as smaller birthday parties. The hall offers room for about 80 to
120 persons.
