St. Jakobshalle
Its generous proportions,
modern technical facilities and superb
transport links make the St. Jakobshalle Basel an excellent forum for events of all kinds. The popular
building is used by people of all ages, and enjoys an impressive international reputation. In summer
2005 and summer 2006 the St. Jakobshalle will be reconstructed in two stages.
Located
at the south-eastern edge of the city of Basel, the St Jakobhalle has excellent public transport links
(tram, bus and temporary railway station opposite the building). It is also easy to reach from the north
(Germany and France) and south (Switzerland) by car. A dedicated car park is located adjacent to the
autobahn exit. Innumerable major events have already been hosted here, demonstrating the tremendous
versatility of this hall.
With a surface area of 2,800 m2, the grand
hall (length 70 m, width 40 m, height 18 m above the lowest point) has a capacity of 9,000 seats in
rows, or 3,000 seats in banquet configuration. This helps give the hall its pronounced multifunctional
character. The auditorium can be converted quickly from a rock concert venue to a forum for general
meetings for major global corporations, a capacious arena for television shows, a centre court for international
tennis competitions, an opera stage for spectacular productions, a sports arena for world championships
or an equestrian venue for Lipizzaner stallions.
The small hall, which
has a surface area of 1,050 m2 (length 42 m, width 25 m, height 8 m), can be used to stage sporting
events of all kinds, as well as to host social events. This hall has a maximum capacity of 1,500 seats
(banquet configuration: 900 seats, sports grandstand: 600 seats, extendable grandstand: 800 seats).
The foyer, which extends over a gross area of 2500 m2, serves on the one hand as the entrance zone for
the grand hall, and on the other as a multifunctional area for large exhibitions.
The
ground floor contains two further halls, and these provide additional infrastructure for the requirements
of major events. Both rooms are practically the same size, and can be hired separately or together.
These two halls are also particularly suitable for smaller events of a social nature. They are each
about 320 m2 in size, and can accommodate approx. 200 guests.
The St.
Jakobshalle has an experienced and proficient crew of specialist craftsmen. Articulated lorries can
be driven directly into the grand hall. Stages are built to measure, in accordance with the wishes of
organisers. The in-house catering services have long experience with the needs of major events, and
are able to meet all corresponding culinary requirements.
