Stadtcasino
The Stadtcasino stands on the Barfüsserplatz, at the very heart of Basel. Under one roof it combines several music and concert halls, and banqueting rooms, all with the most up-to-date equipment; various bars; and a choice of restaurants. Its versatility has made it Basel's favourite meeting place.
Right in the centre of Basel, convenient and easy to reach on foot or by tram (streetcar), the Stadtcasino (City Casino) stands on the Barfüsserplatz, next to the Barfüsserkirche (Church of the Discalced Friars) that houses the History Museum. Founded in 1824 by the Casino-Gesellschaft (Casino Association), it has three halls of various sizes, all with the latest acoustic equipment. The main concert hall can accommodate well over 1500 people. Its superb acoustics have made this impressive hall one of the foremost in the world, and many famous soloists and orchestras have performed in it. With an interior that looks back to the eighteenth century for inspiration, the magnificent organ, and a unique atmosphere, it makes every event held there a memorable experience. The somewhat smaller Hans Huber hall, with room for up to 540 and flexible seating, offers not only a perfect setting for chamber music and soloist recitals, it is also an ideal place for conferences, congresses, exhibitions, and illustrated lectures. For events such as cocktails, receptions, banquets, fashion shows, and other social events, the main auditorium can hold up to about 700 people. The casinos intelligent design provides not only superb rooms for a wide range of special occasions, its technical equipment is also of the highest order. Besides its standard equipment it also offers the most up-to-date aids and support. A variety of restaurants, all under one roof, are not only easy to reach from the auditoria and meeting rooms, they also provide the perfect setting for a wide choice of culinary pleasures.
