Kleines Klingental
The historical
building "Kleines Klingental" (small Klingental),
built in 1294, is situated right on the Basel Rhine promenade and offers an ideal setting for events
in a personal and impressive atmosphere. Basels many cultural treasures can be reached within a short
walk.
The
Kleine Klingental was originally built as a dominican
monastery in 1274 and named after its founder Walter von Klingen. Since 1939 the Basel preservation
of monuments and historic buildings as well as the collection of the cathedral sculptures have been
located here. The biggest part of the ground floor constitutes of the refectory (former dining hall).
Two moulded wooden pillars divide the room, which was fitted out with a late gothic ellipsoidal ceiling
around 1490, into two naves. A richly moulded door passage connects the refectory with the monastery
kitchen. Ceiling beams, blackened by smoke, and the huge chimney are reminders of the former designation
of the room. The small refectory is located on the first floor facing the Rhine. The room is panelled
and fitted out with moulded small beams (1508).
The whole building, which
is protected by the Swiss Confederation, is open to the public and can be rented for private functions.
The historical rooms can be arranged within a short time for various purposes and can host up to 400
persons for a cocktail party, up to 250 persons with concert seating arrangement and up to 220 persons
for a banquet. Due to their different sizes and atmosphere the rooms can be rented for conventions,
conferences, seminars, concerts as well as for banquets and festivities. The historical atmosphere with
immediate vicinity to the Basel Rhine promenade is unique and turns any event into an unforgettable
experience. A capable and experienced team will act in accordance with the wishes of the organisers
and will offer its support already during preparations.
