542nd Basler Herbstmesse (Basel Autumn Fair)
The Basler Herbstmesse (Basel Autumn Fair), the largest and oldest amusement fair in Switzerland, is taking place from the 27th October to the 11th November 2012 (to the 13.11.2012 on the Petersplatz). With its traditions going back more than 540 years and its special customs, such as the Einläuten and Ausläuten (ringing in and ringing out), the Basel Autumn Fair is a part of the living cultural heritage of the city. As a traditional city-centre fair, it is also well-known throughout the Three Country Region, and attracts around a million people to Basel from home and abroad. The charm of this people’s festival also certainly lies in the fact that is it considered to be extremely important by the Basel population.

Kasernenareal, Claraplatz, Messeplatz, Rosentalanlage, Messehalle 2 and Rundhof, Barfüsserplatz, Münsterplatz, Petersplatz (until the 13th November)
