Tatlin – new art for a new world
From 6 June to 14 October 2012, the Museum Tinguely in Basel is placing the legendary artist Vladimir Tatlin (1885-1953) at the centre of its great summer exhibition. Tatlin is one of the leading figures of the Russian avant-garde. It is almost twenty years since this central innovator of art was last seen in a comprehensive retrospective of his work.
The exhibition features the artist’s early paintings, expansive ‘counter-reliefs’, reconstructions of the revolutionary tower and the Letatlin flying vehicle. His works for the theatre complete the exhibition. With over 100 masterpieces predominantly from the most important collections in Moscow and St. Petersburg, the exhibition provides a comprehensive picture of Tatlin as an exceptional artist from the start of an era of change at the beginning of the twentieth century.
