5 years of Basel - Shanghai with numerous highlights

In the autumn of 2012, the Canton of Basel-Stadt celebrated the fifth anniversary of the prosperous city-twinning partnership with Shanghai. In this context, numerous China-related activities took place in Basel from the end of August to the start of October.

Basel and Shanghai have been twinned since 2007, and can already look back on a number of collaborations and joint activities. In consultation with the key decision makers from industry, research, education, culture and tourism, the Division of External Affairs and Marketing has always made every effort to involve as far as possible the Chinese Community of Basel and all other people in the region who are are interested in China. This aspiration has now been fully met last autumn in connection with the fifth anniversary of the city-twinning partnership, with several events with great public appeal.

The third edition of the Basel Mid-Autumn Festival took place on the Münsterplatz on Sunday, 30th September 2012: once again, the small Münsterplatz was transformed into a Chinese People’s Garden for a day, and invited people to get together and exchanges ideas and experiences. The event was organised by the China-Basel Association, and is supported by the UBS as the main sponsor. In addition, the UBS was also involved in the realisation of a six-week exhibition in the main hall of the UBS headquarters in Basel at Aeschenvorstadt 1, which took place on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the city twinning partnership with Shanghai. The exhibition, which was held from the 27th August to the 5th October 2012, provided information about the various cooperation projects and highlights of the partnership on the one hand, while drawing attention to the Basel Mid-Autumn Festival 2012 on the other.
