The governments of all cantons cooperate on certain issues, in order to gain a strong position in negotiations with the federal government of Switzerland. The main areas of cooperation are education, transport, environment or equal opportunities. Basel-Stadt also takes an active role in the Tripartiten Agglomerationskonferenz and closely cooperates with other Swiss cites such as Zurich, Bern and Geneva.
