Trinational
The suburbs of Basel have spread out across national borders. When the European Union opened its borders, international cooperation became even more important: transport, culture, economy and education will be better coordinated. The Trinational Eurodistrict Basel brings together over 60 towns, cities, cantons, districts, regions and associations to discuss issues of trinational interest. At the Trinational Congress in Colmar on 11 January 2008, the Trinational Upper Rhine Metropolitan Region was founded. It is based on the well established fields of cooperation in politics, economy, research and culture and intends to strenghten all connections even further.
