External relations at many levels
The Department for External Affairs and Marketing for Basel-Stadt initiates, bundles and maintains the many layers of relationships of the Canton of Basel-Stadt to regions and cities at home and abroad. To ensure that Basel can optimally represent its interests, the department coordinates all existing and new cantonal external relations from a central standpoint:
- regional with the cantons of North-west Switzerland
- national through the representation of political interest with the federal government in Bern
- tri-national with the bordering areas of France and Germany
- international with strategically selected city partnerships
